Opera Philadelphia present Verdi's 5 act epic grand opera, Don Carlo. A complicated and enigmatic story that pits love against honor, against the background of the spainish inquisition. First premiering in 1867, it is Verdi's longest and most powerful work.

Centering round the forbidden love of Elizabeth, a princess of France and Don Carlo, their future together is destroyed when Don Carlo's father, King Philip II of Spain takes her hand, making the lovers into mother and son. As war rages endlessly, romance is tested further by duty and religion. This devastating and emotional tale is sure to be unforgettable and stars Philly native Eric Owens as the despotic King Philip.
