Why See Elvis Costello?
COSTELLO's "DETOUR" continues
It's common knowledge that rock artists often grumble about being tied to their catalog of greatest hits when trying to put a setlist together and that there has to be a fine balance between balancing out their new material with their time-honored classics without "padding" them out.
CELEBRATING 38 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS
Elvis Costello's Detour Tour, hitting the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, PA.Closed November 10, 2013, celebrates an artist who has cultivated a long career by going against the grain and making his set lists differ from what he would do from tour-to-tour and album-to-album. His mixture of hits and new material is almost effortless and seamlessly flow into each other, as if you are hearing his old hits for the first time or eerily familiar with his new music.
In 2004 Elvis Costello was named one of Rolling Stone Magazines 100 Greatest Artists of All Times. The prolific and diverse musician has worked with and championed the talents of artists spanning the music industry including Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Lucinda Williams and Brian Eno.
Performance date: 10 November 2013
