Cole Porter's delightful romantic comedy opens Walnut Street Theatre's new season
Walnut Street Theatre opens up its 2016/17 Mainstage season with a staging of Cole Porter's fizzy romantic comedy. Based on The Philadelphia Story by Philip Barry and the 1956 movie starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, High Society is a deliriously charming mix of screwball comedy and Porter's trademark wit, which first premiered on Broadway in 1998. The book is by Arthur Kopit (Wings, Nine).
The story follows the build up to socialite Tracy Lord's wedding, which is complicated when her ex-husband turns up, determined to win her back. The score features some of Porter's greatest hits, including Let's Misbehave, True Love and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
