EVENING WITH ALEC BALDWIN

Insightful journey into his career and family life. Informal setting. He entertained us with funny anecdotes of his career and some poignant and yes frustrating moments in his life. This is a quasi interview quasi monologue setting. Great crowd reaction. Everyone listened intently. If you are not a fan, then don't go. But if you have been a fan of his career, definitely a great opportunity to get to know him a little...

A BIT IN THE DRY SIDE...

A Hilarious Evening with Alec Baldwin...Luckily the time went quickly because this was not at all what I was expecting! I thought I was going to see Alec talk about aspects of his life, both personal and professional, using multi- media. I assumed he was going to address the audience directly in a kind of one man show..? Instead there was a host and a sit down and chat format.; 2 chairs facing each other at an angle, question and answer style, with a few video clips played on two (not huge) screens mounted behind and up on the rear stage. This guy started his in the Theatre —So I wasn’t exactly bored, more like disappointed.

THIS WAS A MISNOMER - NOT HILARIOUS.

I had high expectations of last evenings performance as I have been a fan of Alec Baldwins for several years. However, although the content of the evening was a somewhat enlightening, it was overall an underwhelming experience. As well, Alec's positioning on stage was very disappointing and showed little consideration for the audience on the right side of the stage. Those people only had a view of his profile for the entire evening. I would have thought that he would have been cognizant of this fact and faced either directly front and centre or have changed seats with the interviewer half way through. I paid full price for my ticket but in retrospect it should have been discounted as the audience in the centre and left of the stage had a full front view. He should also be more aware of his clothing. My friend did have a seat on the right of the stage but his view included Mr Baldwin's exposed stomach hanging below his shirt... rather off-putting, to say the least

BORING

I was so looking forward to this event which is being advertised as a series with Anderson Cooper presenting in the Spring. I was expecting a night of laughter, impersonations and politics. At the price of $180. per ticket I was expecting more! There were videoclips of SNL which most fans would have already seen. He spoke a lot about his family and his opinions about other actors. Then I dozed off. Don't expect much humour in this interview. There was silence in the car as my friend and I drove home. Now I am having second thoughts about buying my ticket for Anderson, if this is what is on offer.

QUITE AWFUL ACTUALLY BUT HE GOT MY MONEY (BAD ON ME)

The evening was disappointing. Mr. Baldwin mumbled disconnected anecdotes to an inept and clumsy interviewer (John Moore). Didn't bother to look at the audience. I spent the evening watching the side of his head. The interviewer's "performance" was in keeping with the scattered and haphazard tenor of the evening. It should have been explained to John Moore (of CFRB radio) that he wasn't doing a radio gig: to wit, Moore routinely with his head down searching through his papers for the next question while Baldwin meandered along trying to find a joke line. Given that Baldwin's material was so thin, it didn't help to have Moore telegraphing that he wasn't listening to Baldwin as he lost himself in his notes to check off the scripted question and find the next one. Check! Next question. It was clear that the interviewer hadn't bothered to prepare much. Both "performers" appeared bored as if they couldn't wait for the evening to be over. Like much of the audience, I suspect.

ALEC BALDWIN UNDERWHELMS THE CROWD IN OTTAWA

We attended the Unique Lives and Experiences event featuring Alec Baldwin in Ottawa last night. It was very underwhelming and frankly a missed opportunity to really learn more about a person who has truly lead a "unique life". I put a lot of the blame on the format - 2 chairs and an interviewer who was from a local radio show with what appeared to be no experience doing interviews. Rather than taking us through his life, how he got into acting, progression, best experiences, worst experiences, favorite moments, lessons learned etc. etc., we were taken down a meandering path of unconnected stories that often resulted in (pretty good) impressions of fellow actors by Alec. It was almost like the interviewer wanted to know more about who Alec worked with vs Alec himself (ie: "What was it like to work with Tina Fey??"). A missed opportunity to really learn about him - too bad. A very expensive, disappointing evening.

TEDIOUS

Disappointing evening: interviewer was bland and asked uninteresting questions. Baldwin was fine but had nothing to work with. Movie clips were unconnected, no live performance at all. If this was a TV talk show I would have changed the channels after ten minutes. Boring.
