A Celebration Of Impressionism In Art & Music
In partnership with Philadelphia art collection and educational institution The Barnes Foundation, Philly Orchestra Principal Guest Conductor Stephane Deneve leads a special two week festival inspired by and celebrating the foundation's impressionist, post-impressionist and early modern art, as well as the relationship between founder Albert Barnes and English composer Leopold Stokowski.
The first program of the fortnight series includes Stokowski's orchestration of Palestrina's 'Adoramus te Christe', Ernest Chausson's 'Poeme' for violin and orchestra, Debussy's 'La Mer' and 'The Sunken Cathedral' as selected from 'Preludes'. Its closing piece La Mer is a vivid and sonically lush depiction of the underwater realm and remains one of Debussy's impressionistic masterpieces, praised for its boundless imagination and daring modern writing.
