Edgar Allen Poe's menacing poetry forms the basis of this new work from Toshio Hosokawa. Featuring just one vocalist (Mezzo-soprano) Kristen Choi) and a twelve-piece chamber orchestra, this Noh theatre (a form of Japanese dance-drama) inspired production taps into the supernatural of Poe's iconic work, transforming his exploration of grief into a spine-chilling immersive experience.
Published in 1845 The Raven is a masterpiece of gothic poetry, atmospheric descent into one man's madness as he laments the loss of his lover Lenore, its lyrical narrative describes his haunting by the eponymous bird to a chilling finale.
