There's a bit of precedent for this tour. In 2017, Hancock headlined a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, with Washington as the opener. Reviewing that concert for the Los Angeles Times, Chris Barton painted the picture of a hometown victory lap

Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington join forces for North America tour

Two absolute giants of jazz team up for a momentous run of shows in the USA and Canada. With pianist Herbie Hancock representing jazz royalty and saxophonist Washington carrying the torch of the new guard on the frontline of contemporary jazz, the tour is set to be a life-affirming meeting of titans.

Hancock's decorated and truly pioneering career has led him to become one of the touchstone names in jazz history, from his genre-defining early work with the likes of Miles Davies, to his plethora of compositions which have become jazz standards around the world. Washington meanwhile, whilst a relative newcomer to the global stage, has already made a name as one of the most exciting bandleaders of the modern age. One of a handful of musicians reviving and modernising jazz for the current mainstream generation, his collaborations include work with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus and Snoop Dogg. This run of shows is an absolute must for fans of the genre.
