The delights of a fresh summer's day are evoked by cheery melodies and chirruping glee in Beethoven's sublime Symphony No. 6. Otherwise known as his 'Pastoral' Symphony, it was inspired by walks the composer would take in the Austrian countryside where he honed his great love of nature. Expressive and gentle, Pastoral' Symphony stands in marked difference to his 5th symphony, despite the fact that they were composed at the same time.
Conducted by one of the country's greatest conductors in David Robertson, the orchestra is joined by Hai-Ye Ni on principal cello. As well as the concert's showpiece, the audience will also be treated to Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 and Reena Esmail's Re|Member, a tribute to the feeling of re-connection after the pandemic.
