Danill Trifonov lends his extensive skills to Rachmaninoff's 2nd and 3rd Piano Concertos in this series of concerts that will be recorded live. Joining him on the podium is fellow Rachmaninoff specialist and Music Director Yanni Nezet Seguin who'll be contributing his own magic to this unmissable experience.
April 12th and 13th will feature the composer's Piano Concerto No.2 with No.3 following on the 14th and 15th so make sure you pick your dates accordingly. Each recital also feature's Bartok's enchanting Concerto for Orchestra, a fun and accessable piece that shines a light on each section of the company.
Piano Concerto No.2
Enduringly popular, this piece's origins lie in the lukewarm contemporary response to the composer's 1st that brought on a in a deep depression. He underwent both hypno and psycho therapy and dedicated the resulting piece to his doctor, Nikolai Dahl.
Piano Concerto No.3
Enormously respected and in some cases feared, Trifonov more than matches this technical challenge. The favorite of the composer, it gained greater popularity in the 1930s, due to the efforts of pianist Vladimir Horowitz
