World renowned performers Helene Grimaud and conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin bring the PSO's latest season to a close
French classical pianist Helene Grimaud and conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin, also a pianist by trade, are well respected solo performers, each bearing a myriad accolades and much critical acclaim. The pair have often crossed paths and performed together, forming a deep kinship and artistic connection over the years. Together they will close the Philadelphia Symphony's latest season with a rousing performance of works by Schumann, Brahms and Beethoven.
The evening starts off with Schumann's Fourth Symphony, a four-part work of solemn grandeur that plays with light and shade in its lyrical melodic passages. Following this is Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1, a monumental work that showcases Grimaud's dexterity and dynamic touch. Last but not least will be the gravitational force that is Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, which includes the well-known, soul-stirring Second movement that resolves in a gloriously thunderous crescendo.
