Celebrating John Coltrane

Saxophonist Kirk Whalum collaborates with his brother, vocalist Kevin Whalum, and bassist Gerald Veasley, to celebrate the jazz legend that is John Coltrane, a hundred years since the star was born and fifteen years since the release of his album Romance Language, a remake of 1963's John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. Together, these three artists bring the expertise needed to do proper justice to one of jazz' greatest figures. 

Award-winning musician Kirk Whalum's time as a session player saw him perform with Luther Vandross, Barbara Streisand, Quincy Jones and Whitney Houston, with whom he recorded the saxophone for "I Will Always Love You". As well as twelve nominations, 2011 saw him win the Grammy for Best Gospel Song, for "It's What I Do" with Lalah Hathaway.
