Philadelphia Orchestra - 50th Anniversary Commemorative Concert

Why see Philadelphia Orchestra - 50th Anniversary Commemorative Concert?

50 Years At Fairmount

Philadelphia Orchestra celebrates 50 years since the first musical performance in Fairmount Park, the summer home for the Orchestra since 1976! In this special one-off concert, guest conductor Martin Alsop will lead the orchestra through the majesty of Holst's The Planets, Ravel's hypnotically triumphant Bolero, and Beethoven's Leonore Overture No.3, which was performed on that opening night back in 1976!

The Planets is Holst's most renowned creation, composed between 1914 and 1916. Contrary to popular belief, the work is not centered around the Roman Gods but rather draws inspiration from astrology, a subject that deeply fascinated Holst during that era. Ravel's unforgettable Spanish rhythm-inspired masterpiece Bolero is widely considered Ravel's most famous composition and is a stunning display of dance-infused orchestral color. Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3 serves as the opening to his only opera, Fidelio. Together, the three pieces create a memorable evening for the Philadelphia Orchestra - here's to 50 more years!
