Tchaikovsky with Fireworks!

Led by guest conductor Marin Alsop, the Philadelphia Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's timeless and  majestic 1812 Overture, composed in commemoration of his homeland's successful defence against the French invasion of that same year. The all-Tchaikovsky program also sees the orchestra blazing through his Symphony No. 5 and his romantic and recognisable Romeo and Juliet, in a thrilling concert under the stars!

The 1812 Overture

Known to American audiences for its association with fireworks displays on Independence Day in the US, Tchaikovsky's excellent 1812 Overture features a climax reminiscent of cannon fire, with a triumphant fanfare closing out the piece. The perfect accompaniment to a night under the stars, this classical masterpiece is truly exhilarating to witness, a real showstopper in the orchestral canon.
