Swans were formed back in 1981 by Michael Gira, and have experimented with multiple subgenres and sounds since then, including industrial, post-punk, and noise rock. The band have performed with various line-ups over the years, taking a long hiatus in 1997 and returning with renewed vigour in 2010. Their fearlessness in exploring new sounds has garnered them critical acclaim and they have inspired countless rock and metal bands over their 4-decade career.
