Pennsylvania Ballet - All Stravinsky Program

Closed April 7, 2019

I love ballet and am more interested in it than in anything else... For the only form of scenic art that sets itself, as its cornerstone, the tasks of beauty, and nothing else, is ballet.

Step into Spring with Stravinsky

Pennsylvania Ballet explores the ongoing genius of Russian born maestro Igor Stravinsky in this program dedicated to his most enduring works for the ballet, including two collaborations with celebrated 'father of American ballet' George Balanchine and a world premiere from the company's own Choreographer in Residence, Matthew Neenan.

Program

Apollo
Created in 1928, Balanchine's genre-defining hit concerning the Greek God of music is revered as one of the world's best contemporary ballets, fusing the past and present to craft the future of modern dance.

Stravinsky Violin Concerto
The second piece created by Balanchine to his Violin Concerto, this exquisite work defines symmetry with one of the choreographer's most memorable Pas de deux.

The Cage
A vibrant work that looks at the instincts of female insects choreographed by Jerome Robbins, The Cage draws on the haunting strings of Stravinsky's 'Concerto in D' to discover the feral nature of predator vs. prey.

World Premiere
From Matthew Neenan comes a brand new work. Details TBC
