Verdi’s spectacular tale of love and sacrifice
Giuseppe Verdi's timeless tragic masterpiece makes a triumphant return to Philadelphia, coming to the Academy of Music for a strictly limited run in April 2027! Telling a powerful story of war, conflicted ideals and the love between an imprisoned princess and an Egyptian general, Aida has become one of the most beloved works in the operatic canon.
At the height of Ancient Egypt, the Ethiopian princess Aida has been captured and imprisoned as part of a bitter conflict. Managing to survive by keeping her identity a secret, Aida finds herself falling in love with Radames, a young military commander. Radames' loyalty to his king and country are thrown into turmoil when he realises that he loves Aida in return. But a full-scale war is looming, and the two lovers will discover that in a violent world, devastation is only a heartbeat away.
