Iconic Composer Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday Celebration
Hailed as the monarch of classical music, composer-conductor Leonard Bernstein left an indelible mark on American history with a stellar legacy of symphonic, chamber music, ballet, film, theater, choral and operatic works. Join his daughter Jamie Bernstein as she walks the audience through her father's earliest and most youthful works, including Overture to Candide and pieces from West Side Story, to commemorate what would have been his 100th birthday.
A champion of education, Bernstein was renowned in hid advocacy to make classical music accessible to younger generations and promoted this idea with his Young People's Concerts. His shining light inspired his daughter to do the same - Jamie has written and narrated concerts by musical greats, as well as inaugurated the Bernstein Beat, a family-friendly concert at NYC's historic Carnegie Hall.
