Trumpeter Byron Stripling Celebrates 40s & 50s Jazz

Swing into an era where big bands ruled the roost and clubs like the Cotton Club and The Savoy were the hottest tickets in town! Count Basie Orchestra alumnus Byron Stripling leads the Philly Pops in Uptown Nights, a nostalgic program that explores the music that was filling dance floors during the 40s and 50s, from the brassy sounds of Duke Ellington and his orchestra, to the dulcet warbling of Cab Calloway and Ella Fitzgerald.

The world renowned trumpeter invites fellow Count Basie Orchestra member and powerhouse vocalist Carmen Bradford, as well as Broadway performer choreographer and tap dancer Ted Louis Levy to up the ante. Together they'll be putting their own spin on American songbook, trad jazz and bebop standards, evoking sizzling nights spent in Harlem, Borubon Street, and Beale Street.
