SHORT AND SWEET

My wife and I had a nice night at the WST. The show was short and sweet, didn't touch on any heavy topics, and was over before we knew it.

NOT A MEMORABLE SHOW

Felt like a pretty white washed show. The casting of Elvis was poor, the directing was chaotic, and I am fairly certain that a significant dark side of Elvis was completely omitted. I would say the show is below the normal standards of the Walnut Theater.

OK SHOW, NOTHING SPECIAL

My husband and I are huge Elvis fans and we’re really looking forward to this Walnut Theater production. Sadly, the show was a let down. It’s basically the summary of the film from last year without the memorable performances or actual historical facts about Elvis. The flashback scenes felt contrived. The scenes with Prescilla felt awkward knowing what we know now about their actual relationship, and overall the actor playing Elvis just couldn’t sell the part. Perhaps a different casting would have changed our opinion a bit, but in the end, I would say the show doesn’t hit the Walnut’s usually high standards for theater.

MISSES THE MARK

If you love listening to Elvis, just stay home and listen to an album, it will save you money and Elvis will still sound like a southern rock and roll singer. The actor playing Elvis in this show sounded like a karaoke knockoff with no southern twang to be found. Since the entire show is just a simple review of Elvis songs, might as well listen to the real stuff sung correctly. Wouldn’t recommend this production.

ELVIS - WST

This wasn’t the right performer to play Elvis and the story was lacking and didn’t make much sense. The ending confused both me and my friend who was with me. We had no idea the show was coming to an end. Not worth seeing this one.

UNDERWELMING GIVEN THE HYPE

I think a lot of us older more diehard Elvis fans had high hopes for this show. Unfortunately, the show just misses the mark. Some of the scenes were forced and the casting felt wrong in general. All we really wanted was an Elvis concert live by somebody who can sing The King a little bit more accurately.

TERRIBLE BOOK, GREAT CAST

No amount of talent and energy could overcome the thin, superficial script. But the cast is very talented and full of energy. Elvis was excellent.
