DECENT ENOUGH, PROBABLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

The staging and wardrobe were great, the casting and performances, not so much. There has been a lot of Elvis content over the last couple of years so naturally it's hard not to compare this show to the film. Without a convincing Elvis performance the rest of this show falls flat. Since this really is a one person book, with no other fully baked characters, it's hard to blame anyone but the Elvis actor for this dud. I can tell he was trying, he just didn't have the "it" factor and no other performances were memorable.

IT'S TOO THIS IS THE FINAL PRODUCT

I would say that the guy playing Elvis was fine, the writing and workload just let him down. His voice was flat on low songs as he does not have that range, but that is to be expected in a regional theater production. Some of the ensemble should have had expanded parts, and it's borderline malpractice to not have an actual ending to the show. The mailed in writing felt more like a flash cards version of the film, and knowing that the Elvis estate is so heavily involved, the pacification of Elvis's dark side was also to be expected.

NOT SURE WHAT THE POINT WAS

I saw the show last week but decided to write a review today, cause I am still wondering what the point of the show was. For such a big production to have such a weak story about such a famous person was a let down. Could they have maybe let a few more of the black artists sing songs? Or the women in general? They were clearly the best singers in the cast. The ending was abrupt, much like the whole second act, which was super choppy and disjointed. I am assuming even diehard Elvis fans were let down by this one.

WEIRD WAY TO TELL THE ELVIS STORY

All the performances were solid. My wife thought Elvis was too short, but I thought he did a solid job carrying the show. The show was missing an ending, and I wish some other figures in Elvis's life were explored further. Felt more like a summary than a story.

NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE

My husband loves Elvis and I have always been pretty indifferent, but I think like most people we are well aware of his multifaceted story. The good and the bad of a complex person - Sadly, this musical just picks the fluff and leaves out the rockstar lifestyle. It was a weird choice given that the audience around me was similar in age to us (in our 70's) so we can handle drug abuse and other adult themes. I was also struck by how abrupt the ending was. My husband called it a poor man's version of the film without the memorable performances, I think he is right.

I THINK WE SAW THE ELVIS UNDERSTUDY

I hope for the sake of the show that it was the understudy playing Elvis in the performance we attended. Otherwise, I am not sure how the WST can charge the ticket prices they do for such a janky production.

SO MUCH MISSING, WEIRD CHOICES

While it's often times refreshing to see a light hearted musical, this show had some head scratching choices. The MLK scene was extremely awkward. Either hit on all the hard topics or leave them all out. Same thing goes for the musical appropriation aspects of Elvis's career - the race related components of the show were not handled particularly well.
